Independent Educational Evaluation

An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is a comprehensive assessment conducted by a qualified professional who is not employed by the school district. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), parents or guardians who disagree with a school district’s evaluation of their child have the right to request an IEE, often at public expense. IEEs provide a fresh, objective look at a student’s strengths, needs, and learning profile, and can address questions about eligibility, appropriate services, placement, and supports. For families, an IEE offers confidence and clarity when they feel the district’s findings don’t tell the whole story. For school teams, it can offer additional data that supports collaborative, informed decision-making.

Our IEEs are led by Clinical Director Dr. Marina Murphy, PhD, PPS, a clinical and school psychologist with over a decade of experience working in schools. Dr. Murphy’s background positions her to bring a balanced and credible perspective to every evaluation, with a collaborative approach that supports both families and school districts. This dual perspective means she understands the legal requirements, the practical realities of school systems, and the concerns families bring to the table. Each evaluation is thorough, ethically grounded, and focused on one goal: producing clear, actionable recommendations that help students access the education they need and deserve.
